HANK ZORMAN
CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2006 AWARD
We would like to nominate Hank Zorman for the Construction Volunteer of the Year Award for 2006. Hank is a volunteer, although with the amount of time he devotes, he may be mistaken for a member of the staff! Since Hank's retirement from Air Products, he has served Habitat in various capacities on an almost full-time basis!
Hank has served the affiliate with distinction in many ways over the past 7 or more years. Hank took on the challenging position of Chair of Development early in his first term on the Board of Directors and has been very instrumental in building and restructuring this vital committee over the last few years. He recognized the crucial role this committee plays in the success of the organization. He worked with other Development Committee members in recruiting Angelica to serve as Development Director. He is currently working with others to establish an advisory board of influential business and community leaders to help Habitat tap into the vital resources it will need to reach future home building goals. He has been most instrumental in fostering strong partnerships within the faith community which have lead to several house sponsorships. He also provided much of the behind-the-scenes work in forging the partnership with the Lehigh Valley Builders Association to build the four homes which were completed earlier this year.
As a member of the Development and Nominating Committees, he has recruited a number of other Board and Development Committee members who have become strong leaders in their own right. Hank was also part of the search committee which was successful in hiring Chris Bennick as Executive Director.
Hank served the organization as a dynamic and innovative Board President for two terms, 2003 and 2004. During his first term at the helm, Hank helped keep the organization on track during the transition between two Executive Directors, at a time when the organization was facing not only this dramatic change in staff but very difficult financial challenges as well. His energetic leadership was a driving force in accomplishing an accelerated completion of the new office/warehouse complex and move in 2004 to the new location. Hank continues to serve as an insightful and contributing member of the Board of Directors and the Executive, Development and Nominating Committees.
In addition to his leadership roles, Hank also continues to serve as a liaison with Air Products, one of the affiliate's important corporate partners. Hank was the major catalyst in securing substantial gifts of money, furnishings and consulting services from Air Products which have made the new office/warehouse complex a truly professional and operational facility.
He has also become very well-known at the house construction sites, especially since his retirement. Hank is everything…from worker during the week, to running college kids, to board member, to going to zoning meetings. He lives for Habitat. When Chris was unavailable for this year's two week successful blitz build at Aaron Street, Hank stepped up to the plate and served as site manager. Hank also finds the time to represent the affiliate at numerous speaking engagements around the valley to spread the Habitat mission to many community organizations and churches.
Hank's enthusiasm and passion for the success of this organization is most worthy of recognition. Because of his involvement in all aspects of the construction of Habitat homes, it's difficult to define his contribution to either volunteer or construction, therefore, in our humble opinion, Hank is deserving of the combined, Construction Volunteer of the Year 2006 award.
CONGRATULATIONS!
